How to Unlock the entries in SAP S4 HANA, using the T code: SM12.
In this blog post, we’ll explore the step-by-step process of unlocking entries in SAP S/4HANA. To illustrate this, we’ll use the transaction codes OB29 and SM12, providing a practical example to help you understand the process.
Scenario:
- User entry locked in T code: OB29
- We will unlock this entry in T code: SM12
When the user is trying to use T code: OB29 (Maintain the Fiscal year variant).

Getting a popup saying that this T code is being used by another user, so we cannot change the data in this screen, but we can still display the data.
(If display access is sufficient, click the ‘Yes’ button to proceed).
However, if modifying the data on this screen is crucial, but it’s currently locked due to another user’s unfinished session (possibly caused by a sudden logout or etc..), you can use transaction code SM12 to unlock the entry and proceed with the necessary changes

Go to T code: SM12.

Enter the Username associated with the locked entry and click the ‘Search’ button

We can now see the locked entries for that user. Since we are trying to access T-code OB29, so we’ll select the corresponding line (or multiple lines if necessary) and click the ‘Delete’ icon.

A confirmation popup will appear; click the ‘Delete’ button

Finally, the locked entry has now been deleted, and you can proceed to use the T-code OB29.
