Change or Set Controlling Area in SAP S4 HANA.
Understanding: When you use Controlling (CO) for the first time in SAP, you’ll be prompted to select a controlling area. SAP then saves this selection as a user-specific default, so you won’t need to enter it again each time. This setting is important because:
- You can only work with one controlling area at a time.
- If you open multiple SAP sessions, changing the controlling area in one session affects all the others.
- It’s not possible to work with different controlling areas in separate sessions.
In this blog, we walk you through a step-by-step process to change or set the default Controlling Area in SAP S/4HANA using two ways (Note: Other options, such as using user parameters, are also available.)
- Through any Controlling module T code.
- Set Controlling Area in T code: OKKS.
First way – Through any T code in Controlling module
You can check or update the controlling area in any Controlling (CO) transaction. Let us use T code: KS01 (Creation of cost center).

Path – Click on Extras -> Set Controlling Area.

Popup will appeared, give the Controlling area you want and click on continue button.

As you can see, the controlling area has now been updated.

Second way – Set Controlling Area in T code: OKKS

Popup will appeared, give the Controlling area you want and click on continue button.

As you can see, the controlling area has now been updated.
